How to be Saved!

The first question that many would have is “what is Salvation?”

Now that seems to be a rather simple question… but what does it mean? What is someone being saved from?

I remember when I was a small child, our family took a trip to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee with my Grandparents. We stayed at this one really amazing hotel with an indoor pool – and I’ll never forget that at one end of the pool, there was a waterfall flowing down into the pool! It to me was the greatest hotel in the world! Like all kids used to do, we had these little swim rings that we always had to use – and we would hold on to them and jump in the pool! Life was great! Only on one occasion, when I jumped into that pool of water, I jumped out of my swim ring. I knew I was going to die. Only as I was seeing my life flash before my eyes, did my mom reach in the water and pull me out to safety. You could say she “Saved” me. What does that mean? It means that she prevented me from dying.

When we today are talking about being saved, we are talking about the same kind of thing – we are talking about being saved from dying. But this kind of dying has a real cause of death.

Romans 6:23 tells us “For the wages of sin is death…”. Now that sounds like a pretty terrible problem – but wait – it gets worse – Romans 3:23 says “For ALL have sinned and come short of the Glory of God.”

That means that every person who has ever lived is guilty of committing sin – and because of that, we all have this penalty of death on us.

But if we are in such a hopeless condition, what can we do? Romans 6:23 says “For the wages of sin is death, but the GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD.”

Even though there is this severe penalty that we are under, there is also this amazing Gift available to us. IF you receive that gift, then you will not experience the death that this verse is talking about – instead, you will experience eternal life!

Now, if you are like me, you have known plenty of people who claimed to have this eternal life – only you went to their funeral and you saw their body in the casket. So if this is not what the Bible is talking about, what is meant here?

Revelation 20: 14 and 15 says “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”

This is the death that it those who are not saved are destined for.

To avoid this awful penalty, we must be saved – and the ONLY way to be saved is by trusting Jesus and His free gift.

Acts 4:12 says, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” You see – the only way for you and I to get saved is through Jesus.

If you would like to do that, all it takes is for you to simply bow your head, admit to Jesus that you have done wrong, ask Him to forgive you, and believe that He would do what He said he would do. That is really all it takes! Just trust Him!

If you just did that – please take a moment to let us know! We will rejoice with you!
